The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), having followed the saying that "it is never too early to commence a career as a writer", organised a National Essay Writing Competition.

According to Richard Bach, a professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit. To this end, the foremost union in the most important sector of the Nigerian economy gave JSS1 and SS1 students in Secondary Schools across Nigeria the platform to hone their writing skills through essays. 

The Essay focus was on ‘ Clean Energy and the Environment’ and the following prizes were presented to the winners at the just concluded PENGASSAN Energy and Labour Summit in Abuja. 
SS1 category  -
   • winner: cash prize of one million naira (N1million); 
   • 2nd Prize N500, 000 and
   • 3rd prize N300,000.

JSS 1 category; 
   • winner cash prize of N500,000; 
   • 2nd Prize of N300,000 and
   • 3rd Prize is N200,000.

A consolation cash prize of N100,000. 00 each for 4th to 6th positions were given for each category.
