The PENGASSAN Energy and Labour Summit(PEALS 2023) continued with interactive sections and panel discussions on the 10th and 11th of October 2023.
The President of the Association, Comrade Festus Osifo, geared up discussions towards this year’s theme “Petroleum Downstream Deregulation and Gas Utilization for a Sustainability Energy Future in Nigeria”.
Engr. Farouq Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), represented by Bashir Sodiq, delivered a keynote address that Investors would be guaranteed a good Return on Investment (ROI) while consumers of petroleum products would be protected from exploitation by NMDPRA.
Comrade Kingsley Udoidua, the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association, anchored a Panel Session on “Downstream Deregulation - An Enhancement of Opportunities or a Decline in Career Progression”. The Panel discussed extensively about deregulation and technology adoption, which will lead to job changes and not job losses.
Engr. Simbi K. Wabote, the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB), highlighted that Divestment of IOCs is not a bad idea, but must be done within the shortest time frame to be efficient with minimal losses.
In another Panel Session, Mrs Omoabie Akpan, Director of Employee and Labour Relations, Office of Head of Service, stated that while casualization may not be easily avoided, it is crucial to ensure that core job positions on the organizational chart remain permanent in companies.
The Summit ended with another Panel session anchored by the PWC National Chairperson, Comrade Engr. Ada Mbanaso which emphasized on Women leading the charge as it concerns Fueling Sustainable Energy Innovation in Nigeria.
